The Meditations on Blackness

The Meditations on Blackness are exactly that, a set of musical thoughts dealing with the burning issues of Black America that don't get as much attention as I personally feel they should. This feeling does not exclude African-Americans, in fact, this series is directed directly toward the black intelligence and those in the media who should be taking the same kind of actions as other ethnic groups to insure the perpetuation of our history and achievements for the betterment of our community. These are the opinions of a group of people expressed through the music of a people. It is our hope that these thoughts and this music works its way into the fabric of American conversation so we all can begin to move into the 21st century a stronger and more United States of America!

The Spirituals and the Blues

The Spirituals and the Blues is a concert and lecture series created to educate and demonstrate the power of the African-American musical heritage. Through this series, we want to share 3 things about these musical forms. First, we want to educate people about the form and structure of the music. Since the Spirituals and the Blues are almost identical in both form and structure, we can easily teach the community how to recognize, and then categorize music as either being in the lineage of the Spirituals or the Blues. Secondly, through our concerts, we want to emphasize the importance of the Spirituals and the Blues as art forms. It is our contention that once we understand this music that was created to express the pain, plight and progress of the African-American struggle here in America, then we can begin to see the genius behind the music and our third point: the effect these art forms have had on American music and culture.
